Dear Modern Composers Society,We have made progress developing this group to what it is now. Thank you all for being part of it, it really means a lot. Now that we have a fairly decent sized group we have some changes to make. One thing is the rules for 'Modern Composers' or the winners of our contests.

I am now allowing them more privileges. Here are some new privileges:1. Now 'Modern Composers' can be free to join all contests and earn awards from them if they rank superior (like the last one) but their scores will not matter towards placement.2. 'Modern Composers' are the only ones that may advertise on here (if you're not one and you still want to advertise for something really important have a legitimate reason as to why and let me know by messaging me on Musescore).3. 'Modern Composers' may be allowed to judge participants in my contest if they want to (let me know you want to first) but they must use my grading method that I use for that specific contest.4. 'Modern Composers' can now also be allowed to hold contests that can make someone a 'Modern Composer'.Remember to not break the rules 'Modern Composers'. If you feel that you should have more privileges let me know what you think 'Modern Composers' should be allowed to do in the discussion (under good reasoning)Next I want to set a guideline as to how to make a 'Modern' piece, since the intention of this group was to get good composers to create pieces in a new genre that I believe already exists but isn't recognized as its own genre, Modern Music. How do you make a 'Modern' piece?Modern Music is based off the ideas of Modern Day concert band pieces by Modern Day composers.

Let me name a few composers and the pieces they made that fit the standard of this genre:Brian Balmages: 'Sparks', 'Reverberations'Rosanno Galante: 'Afterlife'Richard L. Salcido: 'The Fives Prevail'Michael Sweeny: 'Earthdance'James Swearingen: 'Northpointe Fantasy', 'Fanfare and Triumph', 'The Falling Rain'These songs inspire the creations of all my pieces.

They stand out to me for these are the kind of songs that should be heard more by people. With these pieces as examples, now I present the rules of Modern Music.1. Modern Music favors custom instrumentation but allows the use of concert band and orchestra instrumentation, along with popular small ensemble instrumentation. Electronic instruments are ok to use if they're not used to make pop or rap songs.2.

Let it be known to you that Modern Music is the improved version of classical music. Don't try to make classical music but classical-based Modern Music is totally ok.3. Modern Music can be based off certain genres, but in the end it's not that genre. These genres are ok to base your music off of:-Classical-Rock-Jazz-Electronic- or anything except modern day pop or rap4. Never make a 'Modern' piece that is based off modern day pop or rap unless you are completely changing the genre so it's not pop or rap anymore.5.

The sound of Modern Music is based off songs like the ones above. Almost all Modern Day concert band pieces are good examples of how it should sound. Like I said, this kind of music exists but doesn't have a genre to really be put in.I have these guidelines because I plan to use them in upcoming contests (not all but some).

Be ready to make a 'Modern Piece'Also for every five contests I will hold a tournament that will consist of multiple themes. Instead of me deciding the winner you get to vote for who moves on. I will also be in the tournaments and count towards placements since I am not a 'Modern Composer', but our 'Modern Composers' can't. The winners of tournaments aren't anymore special than the rest, but they won a contest that was harder to win since there will be multiple themes and fellow group members voting. And lastly, for jaweisen and pmljr81 who ranked superior in the last contest, I have the remastered audios ready. Here's the download link for the songs:jaweisen: here are the HQ audios for the pieces on my soundcloud:jaweisen: you if you read the announcements. You did your part. And let it be known I'll start a new contest on Friday.Your group leader,Andrew J.
